Fine lines and wrinkles are natural parts of aging. However, for those wanting to turn back the clock and reclaim their youthful glow, cosmetic procedures may hold the answer.
Botox and Xeomin are minimally invasive treatments that involve injecting a drug into the skin to smooth and rejuvenate its surface. Botox is extremely popular, with more than 7.6 million Americans undergoing the procedure yearly.

Botox and Xeomin are safe, time-tested, relatively affordable, and highly effective. So, if you are ready to refresh your appearance and rid your face of the signs of aging, find out more about these procedures below. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us

What is Botox?

Botox is a toxin used by medical professionals to ease the appearance of facial creases. Botox is actually the brand name of a purpose-engineered toxin created using the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Although there are many other brands of anti-wrinkle injectables, Botox was the first and is still the most well-known. At Luna Vision and Med Spa, we also use Xeomin.

Why do people get Botox and Xeomin?

In most cases, people get Botox and Xeomin for cosmetic reasons. They smooth wrinkles caused by aging almost instantly, creating a fresh, youthful, and wakeful appearance.
Some people get Botox to treat other conditions, including the following:

  • Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)
  • Chronic migraines
  • Neck bands
  • Excessive grinding
  • Lip flip

How does Botox eliminate wrinkles?

Botox and Xeomin injections eliminate wrinkles by blocking the signals between the nerves and muscles. This prevents the muscles from contracting, relaxing and softening the appearance of creases instead.

Botox is typically used to treat forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet (the fine creases around the eyes). Botox can only reduce wrinkles caused by aging – it will not remove wrinkles caused by gravity or sun damage.

Botox is also used as a preventative treatment. Younger people get Botox before wrinkles form. Because they cannot repeatedly contract their facial muscles, creases don’t have an opportunity to form and settle.

What can I expect when getting Botox or Xeomin?

It’s only natural to feel nervous or apprehensive before getting Botox for the first time. Here’s what you can expect before, during, and after the procedure.
Before Botox
Botox is not considered a painful procedure. That being said, if you would like your skin to be numbed beforehand, ask your practitioner. Topical anesthesia, vibration anesthesia, and ice can be used to minimize discomfort.

During Botox

We perform Botox injections in our med spa – there is no need to visit a doctor’s office or hospital. Your practitioner will use a thin needle to administer small amounts of botulinum toxin. Each injection will take less than one minute, and the number of injections you will need will depend on your skin’s texture, the treatment area, and your desired outcome.

After Botox

For 24 hours following your injections, avoid rubbing the treated area. Otherwise, you can return to normal activities – including work – right away.

When will I see my Botox or Xeomin results?

The age-defying results of Botox and Xeomin will be visible one to three days after your treatment.
Your results will last between three and six months. Muscle action will return, causing wrinkles to reappear. To maintain the smooth, youthful look long-term, regular treatment is required. The good news is, lines appear smaller and less severe over time as the muscles in your face shrink.
